American Career College (ACC) offers hands-on training that can prepare students for careers in the healthcare industry at three campuses in Los Angeles, Ontario and Orange County, California. ACC’s programs combine classroom lectures and hands-on training to prepare students for a diploma or Associate of Occupational Science degree. Medical Assistant

The Medical Assistant program at American Career College can teach you both administrative and clinical procedures that are common in healthcare facilities, including a physician’s office, clinic, long-term care, or other healthcare facility. Medical assistants work closely with patients, providing direct care in the exam room and the front office.

The program at ACC can teach you how to prepare patients for examinations, administer of medications and perform routine laboratory procedures, as well as equip you with the front office skills necessary to work in an a medical office.

Dental Assisting

Dental assistants work closely with dentists and dental hygienists to perform a variety of procedures, including patient, clinical, laboratory and administrative tasks. Dental assistants may take x-rays, dental impressions, and other preventive and restorative techniques. All of these things are covered in the training provided by American Career College. The program at ACC can also prepare you for Coronal Polish Certification and Pit and Fissure Certification, as well as California Radiation Safety Certification.

In addition to direct patient care, many dental assistants play an important role in helping the dental facility run smoothly by booking appointments, greeting patients and assisting with administrative tasks.

Health Claims Examiner/Medical Biller

The healthcare industry isn’t all about direct patient care – there can be many opportunities for those with administrative skills and training. A health claims examiner/medical biller works closely on the business side of healthcare facilities, interacting with patients and insurance companies and managing payments.

Nearly every healthcare facility needs employees who are trained in the databases, industry software, and reference materials that health claims examiners/medical billers use. The program at ACC can give you the training you need to understand and complete these duties.

Massage Therapy

Massage therapists don’t just help people relax – they help people with important, healing massage techniques in a variety of areas. The Massage Therapist program at ACC can teach you a variety of techniques from Swedish and spa massage to sports therapy and clinical treatments. Massage therapy and treatment plans are an important part of many rehabilitation programs.

Optical Dispensing

Optical dispensing technicians work closely with optometrists and ophthalmologists to find the best eye care choice for each patient. The Optical Dispensing program at American Career College can prepare you for the National Opticianry Competency Exam and the Contact Lens Registry Exam, administered by the American Board of Opticianry and National Contact Lens Examiners (ABO/NCLE). After completing the program at ACC, you could work in a lab, creating glasses based on specific patient data and measurements. You could also work directly with patients, helping them choose frames, lenses and other eye care products to meet their needs.

Pharmacy Technician

The Pharmacy Technician program is designed to provide students with the technical knowledge and practical skills necessary for an entry-level position in retail, wholesale, hospital or home health pharmacy, or in a prior authorization department, compounding lab and other positions related to the manufacturing, distribution or support of pharmacy products The training provided by ACC can prepare you to work closely with a licensed pharmacist to label and dispense medication, update patient information and rotate inventory.

Health Information Technology

The Health Information Technology program at ACC can teach you how to use technology to collect, analyze, monitor, maintain, and report health data. After completing your training you can be ready to provide critical support for doctors, nurses and other healthcare providers, ensuring that they provide the best care possible to their patients.

This program is unique in that it is divided into eight 10-week quarters and incorporates a blended schedule consisting of courses taken both on campus and online. Since this program consists of an online component, a laptop computer may be provided.^ Students may choose to use their own laptop if it meets the requirements needed to fulfill the online component of the HIT curriculum. The program is composed of general education, anatomy and physiology, core health information technology, and clinical practicum courses. Each quarter is comprised of prescribed subjects or studies that build upon each other.

Vocational Nursing

Nurses play an extremely important role in healthcare facilities, from clinics to doctors’ offices and home health agencies. Vocational nurses are responsible for working closely with doctors and registered nurses to provide direct patient care.

The Vocational Nursing program at ACC can train you in anatomy and physiology, as well as the treatments and procedures that you will use to help patients. The program can prepare you for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN) for licensure as a practical/vocational nurse meeting the standards set by the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians.

Respiratory Therapy

Respiratory therapists focus solely on helping patients breathe better by creating care plans and protocols that meet their specific needs. They work in hospitals, sleep disorder clinics, diagnostic laboratories or rehabilitation centers.

When you earn your Associate of Occupational Science in Respiratory Therapy from ACC, you can be eligible to take the Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) and the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) exams offered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).

Surgical Technology

The surgical technologist functions in association with nurses and surgeons as part of the operating room team to provide care to the patient during the crucial periods of surgery. The surgical technologist must create and maintain a safe operating room environment through aseptic surgical techniques. The surgical technologist must know the fundamental steps and routine procedures needed to assist the surgeon in the use of surgical instrumentation. Maintaining the equipment and sterile supplies needed to successfully complete each operation is essential to perform efficiently as a member of the surgical team.

The Surgical Technology program at ACC results in an Associate of Occupational Science degree and can prepare you for the certification exam administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
